Fence 2 is a new evocation of Fence, a schematic depiction of an upturned fence that considers how familiar objects can be made strange when displaced. Based on a photograph taken on a research visit to Belfast prior to the pandemic Fence acknowledges the creative agency found on the street activated not through people through the lens of art – or any kind of sculptural activity or language associated with visual culture – but that which informs our world by people who do things and take action in ways that disrupt, or add to or subtract from daily life.

Fence was originally shown in the solo show ‘But this material’ at the MAC in Belfast (2021), then in the group exhibition ‘An Insular Rococo’ at Hollybush Gardens Gallery (2022).
