During this performance, Joanna Szafer attempts to teach Anne Tallentire the Polish alphabet across a table in the space, whilst the activity is filmed and simultaneously screened on a monitor placed in another area of the gallery. The viewer could therefore witness the event and its representation, however the placing of the screen meant that the two sites of action, although in the same space, could not be seen from the same position. This concern with language, place and translation relates to Tallentire’s earlier work The Gap of Two Birds.
